Locality
Praia de Luz is a charming small town, with an excellent beach and pleasant restaurants. It is close to the larger port of Lagos, which has a modern marina and lively nightlife for those who want it. Luz is much quieter, although there is no shortage of facilities. The beach and town centre are about a 5 minute walk away, and there is a neighbouring hotel complex with gym and sauna facilities. There are 2 small but well stocked supermarkets in Luz, and larger ones in Lagos.
Lagos Marina
The marina in Lagos offers various types of sailing excursions, including barbecue trips run by a local bar, deep-sea fishing, and dolphin watching trips. Surfing schools operate on the beaches close to Cape St Vincent, where there are superb surfing conditions. Other facilities available locally include pony-trekking and horse riding, tennis, and soccer schools for kids. There are also several water parks on the Algarve, and the famous Zoomarine aquatic centre.
